Recalibrating and resetting for the new year

Person thinking about their mental health for 2025

Prioritising your mental health in 2025

The new year is a fresh page, but life doesn’t always let us start over completely. Sometimes, the weight of the past year can linger, and that’s okay.

While the new year can bring mixed emotions for some, it’s important to take the time to rest and recharge. A mental health reset is about pausing, reflecting, and creating space to recentre ourselves and move forward.

This year, instead of striving for perfection or boundless productivity, consider how you can intentionally prioritise your mental wellbeing. Because when you’re mentally healthy, everything else can follow.

Face where you’ve been

You can’t reset without recognising what you’ve been carrying. Take a moment to reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and what you can let go of. It’s not about judging yourself – it’s about understanding where you are so you can move forward with clarity.

Reclaim your time and energy

When life feels overwhelming, it’s easy to fall into the trap of saying yes too much. But running on empty only leaves you drained and unable to help anyone, including yourself. Protecting your time and energy isn’t selfish – it’s necessary.

Reconnect with what matters

What brings you a sense of calm or joy? Maybe it’s getting outside, reconnecting with friends, or simply having a quiet moment to yourself. These small acts of connection – whether with others, yourself, or nature – ground us in what truly matters.

Focus on progress, not perfection

You don’t need to have everything figured out. A reset doesn’t mean starting from scratch – it means making small, intentional changes. It’s about progress, one step, one decision at a time.

A year to rebuild

This year, let your reset be more than ticking boxes or achieving goals. Let it be about building a stronger foundation for yourself. Acknowledge your challenges, celebrate your wins, and take steps – however small—to create a life where your mental health takes priority.

Our Recalibrating & Resetting Resource provides valuable information on how to stop, reflect and better position oneself for the year ahead. We’ve made it available for free, to share with your organisation, team, friends and family so that everyone can start the new year refreshed and reenergised.
